Dedicate as little as 10 mins of every practice time to some freehand drawing exercises - lines, ovals, whorls They are conditioning exercises for your hand. It’ll will help you loosen your wrist and shoulders; prevent cramping and make your strokes and lines more fluid and confident.
Incorporating pressure practice into this ☝🏾will give you better control of your pencils/pens. Your lines, strokes and final pieces will thank you!
Iterative Drawing (intentional, repetitive practice) after learning is an excellent way to consolidate what you have learned.
Set a daily, weekly, etc. goal for your iterative practice. E.g. take an art prompt and create 10 thumbnail sketches, improving with each iteration. The goal is not to get it right. It’s to build muscle memory so you can’t get it wrong.
Take risks, explore discomfort and don’t be afraid to attempt depicting expressions and how they affect specifics parts of the face. That’s how you get comfortable with challenging faces and their expressions
If you have not understood Shapes and construction, now is a good time to visit Perspectives & Constructions in 3D Space - Chapter 1. You’ll need a good understanding of shapes and how to leverage them in your drawings to replicate or create (from your imagination) a good head. </aside>

PART I - Asaro Head

Heads 💆🏾‍♀️

Contrary to popular knowledge, the head is more like a box not a sphere. It has planes facing the front, sides, etc. The Sphere is a great way to start as it represents the cranial mass of the head and helps us easily map the landmarks for the box. The aim however is to create the box - a head.

However, the character in a head is the result of the individual bones and muscles, as they are shown by careful construction and spacing. As such, every head is a separate problem with distinct combination of shapes, lines, and spaces. Forget every other face/head you’ve drawn and concentrate on the one you are drawing. Draw real people, and don't be tempted to trace; just draw.
